Bekaiym – Turning Care into Change through TechGirls

Bekaiym, Kyrgyzstan 2025

My TechGirls journey was not easy. It took two years of dreaming, three years of applying, and two rejections before I finally opened an email that started with “Congratulations!” Because of this, TechGirls became more than just a program for me. Long before I was accepted, it taught me not to give up and to keep believing in myself. When I joined the 2025 cohort, I carried all of that hope and determination with me.

During TechGirls, I learned something very simple but powerful: the best ideas come from problems you care about. Through conversations with professionals and mentors, I began to see technology not as something complicated, but as something that should serve people. That understanding helped me shape WeSave, a mobile app that digitizes water meters and provides users with real-time data on their usage to resist unconscious water usage and control the water crisis. TechGirls gave me the confidence and skills needed to turn this idea into reality.

After TechGirls, I worked hard to continue to grow WeSave. Our team received grant support from the European Union, which allowed us to develop and test our solution. We also received a letter of gratitude from the Ministry of Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic for our contribution to green technology and sustainable innovation. These moments were not just achievements on paper, they were proof that an idea born from care could create real change.

Most importantly, TechGirls gave me a community. Staying connected with fellow TechGirls alumnae and women in STEM reminds me that I am never alone on this path. Today, I share my story with girls who doubt themselves the way I once did. I tell them that rejection does not mean failure, and that believing in yourself is often the first step. TechGirls did not just change my journey – it gave me the courage to continue it.
