Medine – “There Are No Limits to My Dreams”

The summer of 2022 was one of the greatest, most exciting, and educational experiences of my life, thanks to the TechGirls Program. This incredible journey, which I embarked on alone at the age of 15, transformed me in every way. That summer is so special to me, I remember every moment with a smile. 

Thanks to the TechGirls program, I stepped out of my small city with limited opportunities and into a new, wonderful world. For me, TechGirls wasn’t just about going to the USA or visiting NASA; it was about learning that there are no limits to my dreams and that everyone deserves a chance to develop themselves. Being one of the three girls from my country participating in this program for the first time filled me with joy and excitement. This means I will have the chance to help other girls from my country discover what the world has to offer them. This idea has never left my mind since I was accepted into the program. 

After the program ended and we returned to our countries, I began working on my community project as a young woman with a broader perspective, new ideas, and a desire to contribute to her community. Of course, I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do as soon as I was accepted into the TechGirls program. The TechGirls team, through the activities at Virginia Tech, helped us step by step in preparing for our community projects. (To any incoming TechGirls reading this: I did face some challenges along the way—just as you might. But remember, your Local Engagement Coordinator, your country’s embassy, the TechGirls team, and your fellow TechGirls will always be there to support you. So, don’t worry!) 

My community project was primarily focused on helping students and parents in my city learn about STEM. I conducted a workshop with students of different ages, covering topics such as: what STEM is, why it’s important, women in STEM, how to participate in international programs, and, last but not least, time management. My city is quite small, and most students here are unaware of life-changing programs like TechGirls. I try to inform the students at my school and in my community about the programs I’ve attended, especially TechGirls, as much as I can. 

I still continue to help my community and take part in volunteering activities. I’m excited to see all the great work future TechGirls will do. Once a TechGirl, always a TechGirl!
