TechGirls connects and supports the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by providing them access and opportunities to advance their skills and pursue their dreams. TechGirls is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by Legacy International in partnership with Virginia Tech, Center for Enhancement of Engineering Diversity.

  • Since 2012, TechGirls has trained and mentored 343 teenage girls (ages 15-17) from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tunisia, and Yemen.
  • In 2019, the program expanded to include young women from Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan).
  • In 2022, the program expanded to support approximately 111 young women from 35 countries/territories and 25 U.S. peers in a dynamic four week U.S.-based experience with an 8-month mentoring program. (This includes pre- and post-exchange activities and mentoring.)

International Exchange Internship

We are looking for an energetic, passionate and organized person with the ability to juggle competing priorities. The International Exchange Intern will support the TechGirls 2022 monitoring and evaluation process; as well as curriculum development for TechGirls post-program follow on projects, in addition to other exciting responsibilities.

Social Media International Exchange Internship

The Social Media Intern will begin promoting the 2023 TechGirls program. This may include creating visual and written content for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using design tools such as Canva, developing and updating communication materials for alumnae, outreach materials for prospects and U.S. Embassies, communications with prospects and partners. They will also help contribute to a number of other program priorities.

The TechGirls team seeks short-term volunteers to join our application review panel helping select the brightest and best candidates for the 2023 summer U.S.-based program.
